When We're Out On The Street

We just talk the way we wanna talk!

By her own admission, one of Desi's favorite little moments of the summer revolved around a standard-issue office chair.

For some weird reason, there was this rolly-chair, just sitting there in the middle of Zhongguancun Lu, the street where our apartment was located.  Now, mind you, Zhongguancun Lu is like the Rockville Pike of Beijing, a major thoroughfare with lots of shopping.  (It's known as the Silicon Valley of China for all of its electronics markets.)

This situation struck both Z and I as the perfect opportunity to kick back, chill out, and shoot the breeze for a few minutes.  Z manned the chair, while I leaned against the railing that separated the bike lane from the cars and buses.

All we needed was a Coke and a big bottle of Yanjing Pijiu!

Does This Remind You Of Any Famous International Brand?

As snapped in the neighborhood where we have lived for the past two summers.  Refer back to my snarky rule of law comment from yesterday...

The Sign In The Foreground Says...

..."No Climbing."

Rule of law has to start somewhere.  Just putting that out there...

Target Practice

This is today's photo of the day over at China Digital Times.  It was snapped this summer during a stroll through Purple Bamboo Park in Beijing, just down the road from our apartment.

Here's the scene...

A lake surrounded by willow trees.  Boats you can take out onto the lake.  Only these boats are set up with camouflage (well, kind of).

Did I mention the guns?  There are floating targets on the lake, there for your aim-and-fire pleasure.  I'd say, by the looks of our shooter's concentration, that she is not missing many marks.

The Best Part Of The Beijing Zoo

OK, so I am already on record as not being a big fan of the Beijing Zoo.  But then there is this...

For a fee, you can jump in a speed boat and cruise up and down the canal that runs through the zoo.  Now we're talking!

Only thing is, you guessed it, there was a bit of a line, to say the least.  China gives...and it taketh away...

Georgetown Prep Homecoming 2012

As my mom told me the other night, "It's your turn, Steven, to shuttle your kids to social events and wait in parking lots.  I did my time with you and your brother!"

And so, yes, from picking up flowers, to running from east to west on the ICC, to the pre-dance party, driving two couples down to Prep itself, and waiting in the parking lot at Chili's afterwards, things have come full circle.

Desi and I even met a mom of one of the boys' dates who we went to high school with, who attended many of these same types of dances with us up in Jersey all those years ago.  The circle of life, indeed!

Everyone Loves A Good Panda Bear

This is what it looks like on a crowded summer day at the Beijing Zoo's Panda exhibit.  It is a universal appeal, indeed!

Let me just say that after my first-ever visit to the Beijing Zoo (despite year's of living in close proximity to the place), I could have gone many more years without stepping foot inside the place!  There are some nice exhibits, for sure, but it is overall like stepping back in time a couple of decades.

And the crowds...Get me outta here!
