The Great Terra Cotta Warrior Mark Up

Here's why you all may want to consider taking a quick trip to China to do your Christmas shopping...

A National Geographic catalog recently came to our house in the mail. As Julie was paging through, she noticed there were some small Terra Cotta Warrior figurines being offered. Apparently, National Geographic has this marketing thing down pat, as there is an exhibit of the real Terra Cotta Warriors on display right now at the organization's headquarters in downtown DC. So, taking advantage of the opportunity, National Geographic is offering you the chance to purchase a set of four small replicas for thirty five bucks. A perfect gift for the Terra Cotta Warrior fanatic in your household who has everything!

Now, rewind the clock a few months. On our two trips to Xi'an, we purchased a dozen or so boxes of Terra Cotta Warrior figurines that are similar to the National Geographic collection. Our figurines are a little bit smaller, but there are ten in each set. They will make great Christmas gifts.

Our price? Ten kuai per box. That's less than a buck-fifty each...

PS: There's the xiao tanr (street stall) where our collections came from...You are witnessing the negotiations as they unfolded. If only you could bargain with the good folks at National Geographic!
