Homeless in Beijing

Here's an e-mail that caught my attention:

New Change on Housing

"I'm sorry to inform you that the rent of the house you prefer can't be paid by the university since the landlord can't provide any receipt. Thus I'm working hard on find you new options of other apartments which provide receipt. I'll forward you new information about the housing as soon as possible. Sorry for the inconvenience it brings to you."

I'm thinking the Summer Palace is looking pretty good about now...close to the university, cool breeze off the lake, shade trees...

Well, we're homeless no more, as the e-mail below informs us. This is, of course, a good thing, although I was getting a lot of mileage out of the whole "homeless in Beijing" thing...

"Luckily that we've solved the tax and receipt problem with the landlord of the previus house, which means we can stick to your first choice.

What is going to happen next is that the landlord will sign contract with you after you arrive at Beijing and the rent is paid by season.

The deposit will be one month rent. Thus the first payment will be 3
month rent plus one month rent deposit, that is, 1,600 RMB in total.

Of course the rent will be reimbursed with valid receipt by our school."
